I Don't Know Karate, But I Know Crazy
Spent the long weekend soakin' in a few movies. Behold the rundown:

Mission: Impossible II
Terrible "movie". Avoid at all costs. More of that movie was in slow motion than in regular motion motion. And those masks? Blah.

Shanghai Noon
Pure hilarity. Chan is The Man, as the hip well know. Dug all the classic western references that were peppered throughout (and how about that James Brown line - anyone pickup on that? I think I was the only one in the theater who caught 'er). That Owen Wilson fella was much better than I expected to boot - then again he was great in Bottle Rocket too...

The Mummy (on DVD)
Pretty entertaining. The effects were a little cheesy at times, but there were s'dang many of them you'll barely noticed the bad ones. Bruce Campbell would have been better suited for this movie than that Brandon Frasier guy (too much of a pretty-boy, IMO).

American History X (on DVD)
Just as good the second time around. Some grim imagery to compliment a powerful story.

Spam and Eggs
Been getting some creative spam in the mailbox lately. Scope out the sly subject lines:

  • <(???)> Can This Be True? It Is!!!
  • RE: Your Entry in "Pay my Mortgage Sweepstakes"
  • Your Viagra and Propecia are here.
  • How have you been? I hope you remember me!

Those snakes. I was an inch away from opening that Viagra one ('bout time it arrived, I thought to m'self). Spammers should be slated for experimental, exploratory surgery.

The Table Gets Its Due
Hey hey, the mighty Periodic Table of Funk has been seein' a bit of action lately. She was a Yahoo Pick of the Week last week. Not too shabby, eh? Scope it out. Apparently they don't agree that Barney and Bruce belong on The Table. Remember kids: sometimes Funk takes form in strange and mysterious ways. I do not claim to understand it, I am just its humble servant.

The Table also appeared in ZDNet's Internet Tonight site (right cheer) on their news page, next to something about a chat with John Woo. Also popped up on as a featured site on the DailyBikini.com.

Station to Station
Dave "Yes, My Server Can Do That" Phillips from that Ekho Station website has penned a sly review of the recent MotorCity Comic Con. Well worth checkin' out (as in "click").

Don't Mess With the Monkeys
Another site you hockey fans should take a gander at is the official Blue Monkeys website. These bad boys are takin' table hockey to the next level.

My Cup Runnith Over
Busy busy weekend for some of us. Figured I'd lay out the itinerary on you cats:

Friday
After a long day of slavin' away for The Man, Weezie and I took the shorties to scope out that Dinosaur flick. Though not really hip to the Di$ney scene, I'm a sucker for these CGI movies. Not too shabby, I must say. Obviously it could have been this amazing, poetic piece of film-making that would have appealed to all audiences had the dinos not talked. The dialogue and story was the usual Disney tripe. Worth checkin' out though. Some surprisingly brutal scenes.

Saturday
Attended the 11th Annual Motorcity Comic Con. Couldn't lay hands on a digital camera before showtime, so don't go lookin' for a new Station Vacation (all the pictures would have looked the same as previous years anyway - these shows are pretty consistent: row upon row of dealer tables, freaks in costume, comic books galore, Jeremy Bulloch, over-priced toys, etc etc).

I was barely able to attend under the crushing disappointment of having Dirk "Faceman" Benedict back out of the show at the last minute. A devastating blow. Did get to meet up with Dustin from that Yakface site and the generous Dave Phillips from Echo Station. Some good fellers there.

Didn't end up buyin' much. There was this sly Bruce Lee action figure, but the only one I could find had a discolored face, which would have bothered me to no end. Did grab a $4 Mage action figure (Kevin Matchstick, bubba) and the odd comic book.

Sunday
Cedar Point. Surprised the young 'uns with a trip to America's Favorite Roller Coast. Tons o' fun on those fantastic waffle-whippin' machines. Rode that new Millennium 2000 coaster (highest, fastest, longest line, etc). Quite a ride, though it doesn't beat out the first car on the Raptor, as the hip well know.

If I still had a QuickCam I'd show you my suh-weeet sun-burned forehead in all it's bright-red glory. Gunnin' for some age spots.

We Built This City...
Back from my little vacation in scenic New York City. Quite a town. Had forgotten that my body has, thanks to years of sittin' on my butt in front of this computer, turned into a moist gooey blob. Apparently there is no muscle mass whatsoever in my legs. All that walkin' just about killed me. Oooooh, my achin' dogs.

They Said You Were a Giant
Caught that Gladiator movie whilst in the Big Apple. Some wicked fight scenes - the opening battle was indeed glorious. Story was a little drawn out (with the occassional historical inaccuracy - Commodus never killed his father, etc) and predictable, but a solid movie overall. Russell Crowe is The Man.

A Certain Point of View
Layin' down an all-new Point o' View on you kids (as in "click"). Dig?

Who's the Cat that Won't Back Down
(When There's Danger All Around)?

Many a Station resident have emailed me about this new Shaft movie that will feature the acting stylings of Sam Jackson. You can scope out the trailer right here. The whole thing looks like they threw a little too much money at it. I'm hopin' it isn't some slick Hollywoodized abomination of the man no-one understands (but his woman)... Hafta wait and see, I reckon.

Whooooooooo's the Mastah?
The Putt-Putt Golf and Games here in Ypsilanti, MI hosted the Video Game and Pinball Championships for the great state of Michigan. Back in the day Ypsi used to be a hotbed of video game excitement:

"In fact, Ypsilanti even sent a squad of top players to Ottumwa, Iowa in January, 1983 to function as volunteer referees during the filming of the North American Video Game Olympics, which was aired by ABC-TV's 'That's Incredible.' This event is remembered by video game historians as history's first video game world championship."

That was from the Twin Galaxies website, which hosted the event and publishes the Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World Records.

Why post such seemingly worthless information here at the almighty Station, you say? Well Bubba, because your friendly neighborhood Station webmaster attended the big event and, as Ted Nugent might say, kicked maximum ass. I own Episode One Pinball. Racked up a scored of over 161 million, which was more than enough to ride the Record Book Highway into infamy. The next highest score was somewhere around 124 million. Personal best was 94 million (such was the dire situation I was facing).

For those in the know, I attained the level of Jedi Knight on my first ball (and picked up over 100 million). A couple extra balls later I was a Jedi Master with 140 million. Ball two managed another 20 million and ball three (also known as the Two-Second Ball - which is approximately how long it was in play) drained poste haste. Two letters away from being a Jedi Spirit. Ugh.

Didn't have time to crush the Mars Attacks pinball, sadly.

Ok, if you played long and hard enough you could probably best my gorgeous score - but could you do it when it mattered? When the chips are on the table? Therein lies the true test of a pinball playa's skeelz. Good enough to get m'name in the book? Not sure (I was kinda fuzzy on how exactly that worked). Good enough to strut out the door with the highest score o' the day? Damn skippy. King Monkey Geek.
