Scope
out this glorious
video Richard of Six4.com sent
our way. It was apparently pitched to the folks at the Sci-FI
channel (who, for some inexplicable reason, turned it down). Click
here to download the 6.5MB file. Good good stuff.
Such
a Supple Wrist
Denis
recently sent in this
link explaining why Pinball tables are s'darn scarce these
days. What is it coming to? What kinda twisted mutant society will
we have when the youth of today are raised by scantily-clad
butchers of Mortal Kombat rather than the wholesome bumpers and
flippers of a solid pinball table? "Dogs and cats, living
together! Mass hysteria!" |

Foo
(of the non-Random variety)
48
hours of the A-Team on TVLand over the weekend. Caught such
classics as the Wheel of Fortune episode and the Heart
of Rock n' Roll episode which co-starred Rick James and Isaac
Hayes. Rick sportin' some might funky locks.
Ever
notice how the A-Team always ended with some light-hearted joke
being told (typically involving Murdock) and the scene would
freeze for a moment while a couple credits rolled, then start
again, focusing on different (laughing) cast members, freeze with
more credits, start again and freeze again? If you look for it
you'll know exactly what I'm talkin' about. I've noticed CHiPs
does the exact same thing (only the the final "frozen"
shot is generally a group picture). I've also seen this on Magnum
PI. Anyone recall other shows that employed this ingenious closing
credit method? Starsky and Hutch? Simon and Simon? Riptide? Knight
Rider?
If
Toshi Station were televised you can bet that is exactly how the
program would end... |

Death
Defyin'
You
can blame Robby Knievel for the lack of an update yesterday. I'm a
sucker for those stunt specials whenever one of those Knievel boys
are involved. When it comes down to watching a guy risk his life
on a dirt-bike (with the fireworks and the danger and the outfit)
or updating the mighty Toshi Station, I'm sorry to report I'll go
with the daredevil every time (oh, like you wouldn't).
Plus
that street-magician-secrets-exposed thing was on right after...

Strange

If
you are down with the Photoshop scene you need to scope out this
great History
of Photoshop article on webreview.com. Born in Ann Arbor, MI
(not two minutes from where the Station Management lives,
incidentally - I guess we know where the cool people reside),
Photoshop 1.0 shipped 10 years ago this month. Article comes
complete with a toolbar history and Easter egg guide.
I
remember using the antiquated 2.5.1 back in college. Where would
we be without the splendiferous workhorse known as Photoshop? I
shudder to think...

High
Noon on the Highway Patrol
Exciting
episode of CHiPs the other day (which is not to say every episode
isn't packed with edge-of-your-seat thrills, mind you). It was
episode #111 (first season), Name Your Price, in which
Ponch purt-near drew his revolver! End of the show, Jon and Ponch
have the Rolls Royce thieves trapped in a parking lot - hiding in
one of the parked cars. Going from car to car, Jon feels the hood
of each car for heat. Close up tight on Ponch's gun belt where he
rests his hand on the butt of his service revolver! My head simply
would have exploded had he actually drawn that puppy.
In the
entire history of the show, there have been only three episodes
where a gun was drawn (by a cop). Officer Bariciza (yes, the '76
CHP Bowling tournament champ) holds the distinction of being the
only CHP-man to pull his piece. It was Bariciza all three times -
once in season 1, 2, and 4 respectively. The guy is a loose
cannon, to be sure.
Seven+
seasons of highway patrollin' and not a single shot fired. An
homage, no doubt, to the Sheriff Andy Taylor approach to law
enforcement. Name Your Price was the first time I've ever
seen either Jon or Ponch even acknowledge the existence of their
firearm (much less imply that they were ready to draw down at the
first sign o' trouble).
CHiPs: surprises
around every corner. |

Scope
out this suh-weet banner Dan
"Banner Veteran" Gorgone sent my way. Cool, no? Captures
the laid-back Station vibe. I'll have to toss it in the link

Dan,
who happens to be one of those independent

Doh!
Missed
a couple updates there. Been sick. Cat broke her leg. Back on
schedule now.
The
Beach
Saw The Beach over weekend (no time for updating,
but plenty of time for movies, eh Mr. Station Master?). The
book by Alex Garland was, naturally, much better. I thought
they nailed the casting and locations - all was exactly how I
imagined it - but the movie switched directions several times and
the soundtrack stunk. |

So,
when you're playing you feel like a preserved moose on stage?
Local
band Tribe of Zoe asked the Management here to cough up an
illustration for their new album Fall from Heaven - a
simple, elegant winged angel to to be printed directly on the CD. Here are
the results
(careful kids - she's nekkid). Scope out the rejected
version.
Apparently the reject looked too much like something Patrick
Nagel would've done, which, after looking at it with that in
mind, may be true.
You'll
eventually be able to order their sophomore effort online at www.tribeofzoe.com,
if you are down with the trance/ambient/drum and bass/hip-hop
scene (and slick CD drawerings).
Jeanine: Oh, no! I told them once, I told them a hundred times:
put "Spinal Tap" first and "Puppet show" last.
Derek: It's a morale builder, isn't it?
Jeanine: We've got a big dressing room, though.
David: What?
Jeanine: Got a big dressing room here...
David: Oh, we've got a bigger dressing room than the puppets? Oh,
that's refreshing.. |

Mighty
Whitey
The
legion of designers employed here at Station have, over the years,
been a part of creating many a website. Whilst working on one such site it
occurred to me that all these projects share one thing in common: all contain an image that has been with me since
the very early days. The name of this bruiser is "Twhite.gif". Twhite, forged in the fires of Photoshop back in mid'96, seasoned soldier of spacing, has never been created
twice; that is, I've copied the same image over and over again -
like a burning phoenix, reborn.
Twhite originally stood for "transparent white" - despite the fact that "transparent" would imply no color - this was before I had fully come to terms with how a transparent gif could aid in page layout. Labeled as white since the background of the site I was working on at the time was,
naturally, white.
Twhite has graced the pages of corporate giants like GoodYear to fan sites like Rebelscum.
Without further ado, I bequeath onto you the Spacing Samurai, Twhite:
Download
and use in good health. He was knighted a 3x3 pixel image, but fights
best when specified to the size you need (therein lies the secret to
his mystical powers). |

this 4.5MB .mov file and

pronounce it the most whimsical download of the season.
Trapped

Got
quite a response from my Call for Darkness earlier this
week (below). A hearty slap on the back to those who wrote in with
the advice and offers. Pleased to report that we have managed to secure a copy of this
coveted double-disc set o' evil (proud owner of
#15364). Forked over more than I wanted to, but I reckon that is
the price paid for procrastination. Can't wait to check this bad
mama jama out... Have to post a review or something. |

Aw,
that's just what we call "pillow talk", baby
Ordered
the Army
of Darkness two-disc special edition DVD from CDNow.com a
while back (for a mere $26 w/coupon). Waited and waited. Finally
cut my losses and cancelled the order. Then they email me to say
it was back in stock and they'll ship it out post haste. UPS
dropped it off yesterday. Opened the box and found I was the proud
owner of Hell in the Pacific with Lee Marvin. Not a big Lee
Marvin fan (though it co-stars Toshiro Mifune, who has been in
more films than you can shake a nunchaku at).
Now
this bad boy is out of print. Goes for over $60 on ebay. There is
much weeping and gnashing of teeth here at the Station.
So, uh,
anyone got a spare copy?
