Editorial Numero Uno: Stickin'
it to The Man
Got one of those nifty free
websites GeoCities is handing out? Sick and tired of all the
pop-up ads and that new transparent gif that now appears at the
bottom right corner of your website? Well, I know I'm tired of
lookin' at 'em - and now there is something you can do about it!
This could very well be common knowledge, but be warned: the
wisdom I'm about to impart upon you probably violates that user
agreement you agreed to and they could very well pull the plug
on your free ticket (hey, Big Brother can't possibly be
monitoring ALL those free websites, right?).
Here is the deal: every time a
browser loads up your GeoCities webpage an extra bit of
Geo-java-script sneaks onto the very end of your html code
(right after the
< /html > tag) . What you need, my friend, is the
cleansing power of some extra coding to wash away that java
stain! Simply add a sly bit of code after your closing html tag
like so:
< /html >
< form >
< textarea >
Update: Notice
that "textarea" is now one word...
Presto! Your GeoCities website is
free from unwanted pop-up ads and floating gifs. What could be
easier?
Please folks, when the GeoSecret
Service kicks in your bedroom door and starts confiscating
anything with an electrical cord don't tell 'em where this
secret knowledge came from! When they haul you downtown for
questioning and the good cop/bad cop team has you baking under
those hot lights for hours on end, just remember how Han Solo
didn't give up the goods in the Bespin torture chambers!
"Who gave you that forbidden
information, kid? Make it easy on yourself..."
"Do your worst, Dark Lords of the Sith! Ptui!"
I'd like to bring the house down
for a moment and extend a hearty thanks to my friend Philip Wise
of Rebelscum.com. He has
generously given the Station a nice parcel of land on Planet
Wise and for that I am most appreciative.
He is one of the good ones.
