Editorial Sixteen: Pod
Racin' on muh Fun Machine
Been spending some quality time
with that new Episode One Pod Racing game on the mighty N64.
Wrote a review about it. Like to hear it here it go:
The Good:
- Graphics straight off the top
shelf
- Diggin' on the play control
- Heaping gob o' tracks (and
some brutally long ones to boot)
- Win cash, upgrade pod racer
The Bad:
- No race-able Sebulba until the end
- Why does ice effect my hovering pod?
- A couple one-shot type weapons would have been keen
- Not much in the way of a multiplayer game (very average)
The Ugly:
- Not enough of the incredible soundtrack
- Merciless AI as you advance through the later levels
- No Lando
At the end of the day I leave this game with the sense that
racing on the N64 doesn't get much better. Having fellow
racers cursing at you in some alien tongue is one of a dozen
small details you don't want to miss (hearing Watto hum the
cantina theme is another). In the racing category I'd rank
this baby up there with the likes of F Zero X and Diddy Kong.
Managed to screen-grab the cut-scene where LSilky And Sebulba
taunt each other at the start-line. Someday I'll have to post
the secret El Dorado code so you kids can race in
style...
